Beatus was formed in 2001, by Terrance R Bailey, specifically to perform a 'Requiem' he had written in honour of his parents. Formed initially from a group of friends from various walks of life, the choir has been active ever since.

More about Derby Choral UnionDerby City Singers are an adult chamber choir that has sung together and performed since 2003. We meet monthly, usually on a Sunday evening in the Allestree area. Our repertoire includes music by classical composers as well as madrigals, musical theatre and new music by contemporary composers. We have performed alongside the Voices Girls Choir many times in the Derby area, London and on European concert tours.

Its founding members (Barry Taylor, Phil Simcox, Kim Harris and Paul Wilson - 'Four Blokes') spotted the need for professionally produced shows not bound by the needs of large casts. Having many years of stage experience and affiliations with other amateur drama and musical societies they decided that the time was right to produce quality plays and musicals that catered for small casts. They felt that many traditional amateur companies failed to use these great shows, as they have to incorporate all of their existing members into each show.

It is a very friendly society which puts on two plays a year, in May and November, plus social and fundraising events throughout the year.
